A Case of the Cooties

It started happening about midday. My stomach was a little unsettled and I didn’t even have an appetite. I thought, “I’m usually starving by now. What’s going on?” I knew something wasn’t right. My upset stomach continued throughout the day and by the time I got home, fever had set in. That made it official. I had come down with a case of the “cooties.” When I told Kathy what was going on, she said, “Ewww! Stay away from me. I ain’t kissing you goodnight. I ain’t getting nowhere close to you. In fact, you sleeping on the couch.” That’s the cooties effect. They make others want to get away from you… as fast as they can.

But when you truly love someone, you really can’t stay away. So, what did Kathy do? She took my temperature. Made me some soup. Pulled out the ibuprofen for my fever and gave me plenty of clear liquids (Sprite) for my stomach. Then she told me to go ahead and call in because “you aren’t going anywhere tomorrow.” I listened to her (this time). And 24 hours later, I was back in business. It is true what Scripture says. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10a says, “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion (NASB).” I was so thankful to have a companion to lift me up when I needed it most. Her ministry to me allowed me to rest, relax, and get better much quicker than I ever could have done so alone. That’s what happens in a healthy marriage. We help one another because it makes each of us better. And I’m so grateful. Oh, and yes, I enjoyed the warmth of my own bed too… after she sprayed it down with Lysol.

How can you help your spouse this week to make his or her day better?
